So, I've added pictures of the cats (can't get the dogs to stand still long enough to snap a picture!) and of my Honey. I'm pretty durn proud of myself right now!!

I've joined the Southeastern Diabetes Group, and I'm looking around for more.

I was diagnosed with Type I DIabetes when I was 17 (I'm 35 now) and it's been an okay ride until this year when (play ominous music) I started getting complications. Peripheral neuropathy and idiopathic swelling in legs, abdomen and hands/arms - lemme tell ya, this kinda pain can make life a different thing.

Since the beginning of this year, I've had CT scans on my abdomen and pelvis, a colonoscopy, an endoscopy, a stress test, ECG and EKG, and my next step is a gastric emptying study (to determine possible gastroparesis) and a vascular ultrasound. No one can figure out the swelling, and it's a pretty rough thing to deal with. Add in the neuropathic pain as well, and man...it can bring ya down.

I'd love to hear from others with similar situations or symptoms! I mean, we all know that misery loves company, right? ;)

I'd also love to get endo recommendations in the Atlanta area. I've gone through probably five or six since I was diagnosed...it's been tricky. One year after the diabetes diagnosis, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, which resulted in removal, radiation, and synthetic thyroid hormone replacement drug therapy. So, it's kinda tough to find an endo who can (or will!) handle both issues. Or...maybe I'm just too picky! ;)

Anyway, that's about it for now. I'm totally stoked to have found this site, and I look forward to talking with others and learning lots and, heck, sometimes...just commiserating!
