After talking to some people in chat i thought it woudl be better if i would post some of this in a blog post.

my first situation started when i started at college about a year ago. I am a type 2 diabetic and I take evening classes for personal reasons so there were days i did not get out of class till 10.  I try to keep myself on the same basal insulin schedule so at 9PM i would excuse myself from class to inject my lantus in the mens bathroom.

I went to the restroom not realizing i was carrying my insulin and need in hand.  When i came out of the restroom i was stopped by the security guard and the night dean and escorted to the security office.

Now this may have been my pride but they asked me to empty my pockets,  I refused.  I believe i did not need to disclose that i was using insulin to anyone.  instead i took off my medical alert bracelet which clearly says im insulin dependant and also took off my dog tag and told them clearly i was not using drugs except those perscribed.

they decided to take it one stop further and called the local police in on it.  I then explained to the cop that i am a diabetic and i put my vial and syrgine on the table as he searched me.  He then asked me if i could go to my class and collect my stuff so he can search it.  I let him proving that i only had my diabetic drugs on me.

So short version is i had the police called on me for doing what i needed to do to regulate my sugar.  I have started a grivence procedure aganist the school and responsibile parties.

and here is another.  I am very sanitary when i check my sugar.  i use alcohol pads, gauze pads and hand santizer during the whole bit.  One of my instructors had an issue with me testing during class because i was not using the school santiizer.  There stuff is nasty and leaves your hands feeling gross so i have my own stuff i keep with my supplies.  so they made a stink about that.  they now require me to test in the bathroom but i still have fears that i will be accused for using "drugs" again.

anywhoo thoughts are welcomed and i will answer any questions you have to provide

I hope you get some where with your law suit. I am fortunate in that I work in a place where they understand diabetes and the need to test and inject.

I'd be annoyed to have to test, etc. in the bathroom. Sitting in a restaurant I could (but don't) swab & test without hesitation and no one would notice.

yeah, after a legal consultation with a lawyer who is also a diabetic and she has advised me to sue the school for discrimination and pain and suffering. We are just waiting for paperwork to be pushed thru.
