Hey All
Im new to this site, so i'm still gettin the hang of it! I've been a type 1 diabetic for almost 8 years now! Im pumping which has changed my life for the better! I've had better control since i started on the pump but i still have ups and downs(as everyone does...i hope). I live in the australian outback (no we dont ride kangaroos), its a small town but i love living here. It makes it harder being out in the bush when it comes to diabetes... my medical team is 7 hours away which can make it tricky sometimes but i wouldnt change it if i had the chance! Anyway i've signed up so i can hopefully help other t1 diabetics and when i need advice im sure you all will help me!
I dont live with type 1, type 1 lives with me! xx
Comment by acidrock23 on February 18, 2013 at 6:41pm "I dont live with type 1, type 1 lives with me" is a good motto! I'm in Chicago and we all ride kangaroos to work as they make it a lot easier to get through the traffic. I'm a little concerned about tomorrow as it's supposed to be snowy and they can slip and slide. Ha ha, just kidding!
7 hours is a long way away for the doc. Are they pretty available by phone, email or whatever?
Nice to meet you and welcome to Tu!
Comment by Caity on February 18, 2013 at 8:13pm Yeah my doctors are wonderful being available anytime (day or night) via phone. there is a small hospital in the town i live near but the staff dont know enough about diabetes to help me! The Royal Flying Doctor Service have saved my life many a time by air lifting me to my medical team when i have been very sick! Thats amazing thats it's snowing there! I've never seen snow so it feels like a whole other world when i see photos etc. where i am from its mostly hot and dry but we have been having some rain in the last few days which has been wonderful since we have recently had bush fires!
I only stubbled upon this site by accident and im so glad i found it!
Comment by acidrock23 on February 18, 2013 at 8:20pm ooh, hot and dry, so far it's holding off w/ slushy rain blowing out of the south about 40 mph in front of the cold front. I'd like some hot and dry about now!! It's a great site. I have rattled around online since 2008 but have been very happy here and find out all sorts of interesting ideas, tricks, treats, etc.
Comment by Caity on February 18, 2013 at 8:36pm Yea i'm not a big fan of the cold but we kind of get both extremes out here, very hot in summer and quite cold in winter! though not as cold as you guys would experience! What i've seen so far has been amazing! people writting about issues that i thought wasnt common! it's awesome to know that your not alone no matter where you are!
Hi Caity, welcome! I have communicated with one of your mates that also lives in Oz. We've been communicating for over 10 years, she too has T1, I'll let her know about you. In reference to where she lives I don't remember at the moment but I'll find out.
Comment by lotsofshots on February 20, 2013 at 4:22am Hi, Welcome to the site. I love your positive energy. With an attitude like yours you have a very bright future. I grew up in Michigan, so I love snow. Now I live in Virginia on the east coast of the US, and we have had no snow to speak of this year, and it has been pretty warm. It is so nice to meet you! Thanks for introducing yourself. Lots
