I saw my endo and my A1C was 6.4.He was concerned because studies with Type 2 with diabetes for many years and an A1c under 7 are subjected to cardiac problems.I don't know if that refers to type 1's.He said that my control was a bit too good.I also have about 7 basal rates and he said too many, but he also said that the "proof is in the pudding."What else can I say.My control has been great.

Comment by Holger Schmeken on November 9, 2012 at 9:06am You should ask him if he has derrived this knowledge from the flawed ACCORD study. My last A1c was 5.9 - totally horrible ;-)
Comment by lotsofshots on November 9, 2012 at 11:08am Although I am a Type 1, I also have the problem with being asked to keep BG at 150 fasting and not have a A1C less than 6. I pretty much was so stressed out arguing with NP bout my wanting my BG in the range one 80-120 fasting and no more than 180 two hours after meals. I had to stop seeing that NP for diabetes because of the conflict over this issue, I don't need the stress, and I know what ranges make me feel the best.
I am older and have other health issues, so I am not going to try for the 5 club, but clearly the results I read about here on Tu make much more sense that any fasting BG of 150. It is not worth the stress of arguing. We are the ones with the diabetes, and the ones who live with the numbers and how they make us feel.
I have found that the NP was very opposed to my being receptive to following information received from the DOC, but oh well! I have a goal of an A1C of 6.

Comment by Jim Roach on November 9, 2012 at 11:56am When I walk into my endo visit with a 5.2 or 5.3 he is always happy. (ty 2), but he does tell me when at 5.1 it's a little low for a person on insulin. Never voiced any concerns about cardiac problems.
