Darling concludes with a personal plea to the ADA’s CEO, Larry Hausner:

“Your organization’s Mission Statement is ‘to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.’ Surely, ‘improve the lives of’ should include preventing death with organ transplant, indeed, that should be priority number one for the ADA.

"When you achieve success and orchestrate our government towards new OD policies that save the lives of hundreds of thousands of renal patients, they will not only rejoice but be the first to say that your total compensation of $475,863 is richly deserved.”

Yikes. $475,863 per year would buy a lot of insulin for indigent diabetics, wouldn't it?

You said it well, Jean. Imagine being paid over $475,000 and not agressively lobbying for new organ-donor policies to overcome the miserable failure of altrusim to meet the demand for kidneys--hundreds of thousands more are needed to reverse the many dying daily. If I were in Hausner's shoes, I'd consider that lack of action on my part abject failure and resign so that an organ-donor oriented CEO could take the helm at the ADA. Thank you for your comment; I hope you pass on this press release to your Congresspersons, you can get their contact info here using your zip code: http://fairfoundation.org/organdonation/contact_congress-financial_...

Indeed, Alan, in my press release and in our national efforts we are promoting that policy which is known as Presumed Consent. Let us put the burden of "opting" on the person who is not altruistic and who does not want to save a life, not on the person who does. Please visit our site at www.fairfoundation.org and thank you for the input here.

PS: Once at our site, click on the woman looking into the microscope to go to our page with template letters you can use to promote the needed new organ-donor policies.
