Welcome to your easier, more convenient life. Really?

Welcome to your easier, more convenient life. Really?

I should start by saying that I am not new to pumping. I have been using a pump for the last 4 years and was diagnosed a little over 16 years ago. So I am not new to this, but.....

Yesterday, I received a large box containing my new MiniMed 722 pump along with the CGMS and all the other paraphernalia to get me started. I can say that I am excited about this and have been looking forward to this experience. I really want to tighten down my control and try to get my A1c numbers lower than they are. Not just for me either, I am doing this for my wonderful wife and daughter. I do this for them, I owe it to them and to myself. I lean so much on them, they deserve a healthier me.

Now I also love new gadgets, can't help myself, gotta start playing. Just didn't realize what I was in for. I unpacked the box and pulled everything out and onto the kitchen table. I am wondering if I felt the same way 4 years ago when I got my pump the first time. All this stuff, all this paperwork, the pamphlets, the paper, the toys.....

How would I feel if all of this was unfamiliar to me? Then it hits me..... I have my family, my doctors, my Medtronic team, and I have you. I am very glad I found this place, a place to share, a place to vent, a place to ask for help and encouragement, a place to also give the same things I ask for. A place where I can learn, laugh and live. I am not alone.

Welcome to your easier, more convenient life. Thank you Medtronic. I am looking forward to this. An easier, healthier, happier life.

In the mean time, honey, I have a new toy to play with so if you have been talking to me for the past few hours or days...... hey what's this button do........

My husband walks by the desk where I am reading, viewing user guides, pushing buttons and says, "Did you learn everything yet?"

I received my first pump on Monday. It was a weird feeling seeing the two boxes on the step of the brown truck getting ready to be unloaded with the name "Medtronic" on the side of it. As I signed my name on the electronic signature pad, I wondered if the UPS guy could see my emotions or realized how my life was about to change.

Medtronic just released the Revel yesterday. 4 years ago I got my 715 pump the same day the 722 was released and even though I tried I wasn't able to upgrade for free and ended up paying the full pathway upgrade price. I was ticked. And I complained loudly.

Anyway my rep just emailed and said that there is a 30 day trade or free upgrade. I'd call your rep or call Minimed. It looks to me like you also got the CGMS there and the Revel has a ton of CGMS upgrades that you should look into.

HAd the same experience the other day! Unpacked it all, relooked at all the little goodies (blue clips, what the ..?) in the nicely packaged pump box, all these things that keep me alive and ticking on everyday. I skipped reading the manuals though, just dove into setting up the Wizard! Never used another pump other than Medtronics - wonder what they do?

Shot for sharing your experience!

I am pretty sure you wife knew she was going to lose you for a couple of hours as soon as that box arrived. And would bet money that she didn't mind a bit considering what it would do for the whole family!
