Whenever I have any aspartame it send my bg high right away and keeps it there for at least 7 hours, no matter what I do for it. When I realized this in 1986 I stopped using any for 6 weeks, then ran a test. I tested at 120 before lunch, then had my normal lunch with 2 cans of diet soda. An hour later I tested at 307, then got EXACTLY the same reading each hour after that until 7PM. That's the ONLY time I ever got precisely the same reading 6 times around.....
Curious, you being on 15u only. The only other person I know that is on that little insulin and T1 works out constantly. He, however is a big carb consumer. Has good BGs though.
I like him too. It cranks me up when people start saying he died of heart attack! But then manybe you can tell that!!! LOL Sheesh Ornish died from suicide when his diet didnt protect him from leukemia like he thot it would.
Unfortunately we are next to nowhere in our understanding of diabetes. What causes it ? Even what to do about it? The low carb high fat option seems to be favored by many diabetics on the web sites. The powers to be prefer a high carb low fat diet, I guess their BG are fine. I have severe insulin resistance and I am at a loss of what do to. I was going to ask the doc for some avandia but that is taboo now. My body can only tolerate metformin for 3 weeks then I get so weak I cannot get out of bed.
Thanks Janine for your feedback, really appreciate it. I started the low carb diet cause im still experimenting different eating habbits to understand which one suits me best. The normal diet prescribed by my doctor was fine, results wise, however my way of living was a mess since i barely had any energy to do anything. With the Low carb im doing well, but the weird thing is i am not noticing any decrease in my insulin level. I even had better blood glucose on the normal diet. Is that normal or am I doing something totally wrong. As for the Doc its a very good idea, I used to document all my meals to be able to calculate my I:C ratio. But the weird thing is say i used to have 4 units for 30 gm of carbs now i need 4units for 12 gm of carbs + protein source.. this is making me crazy :)
Thanks for the info, I will definitely look into that. I was curious about one of your posts regarding vitamins that you take. I'm considering trying B-12 and can't determine if I should try the methylcobalamin or cyanocobalamin?
I said to be careful with Tylenol and certain over doses of vitamins. I never mentioned a specific vitamin. Yes, I have peripheral neuropathy. It developed fr. steroids given when I had pneumonia. I do take liquid vitamin B, D/Calcium, and multivitamin and alpha-lipoic-acid in capsule form. Once my Vitamin D level was normal doctor decreased IUD because too much can cause liver damage. I have never taken pain pills or Tylenol. One, I have a high tolerance for pain, and two, I don't like taking too many drugs. I do shake cayenne pepper in boots and sneakers. The capsaicin in cayenne pepper generates heat which helps with inflammation and pain. In the army navy story they sell heat packs to place in gloves and boots for $2. After reading the ingredient (cayenne pepper) I realized I could make this.
Janina, I used an average TDD of 34 units this summer, but I am using 42 units since the weather has turned colder here in NY. I always use more insulin in colder weather.

Last blood test was 22 Jan 2009
The last GGT was 30 U/L with a ref range of 11 to 63.
B-12 was 621 pmol/L range 155-800
TSH was 1.09 mU/L ref range 0.0 to 3.4
Alkaline phosphatase was always normal
Vit D at 87.7 nmol/ L a bit on the low side. Popping 2000 D3 a day should be good now.
The B-100 is Jamieson.

I am popping a B-100 pill cut in 2 twice a day. Keeping tabs of the blood sugar not to go low. Too soon to see if it helps.
I do not eat red meat much. Mostly chicken, pig and fish.
I do not drink alcohol much. Less than 30 ml of 40% per day and not every day.
