Hi Gator, I think I am the first one up today. Happy New Year! I am sore from all the walking in that mall yesterday. I can't tell what the weather is like out because it is still so dark. The cat is up with me. She is so cute and sweet. What a nice cat I picked out.
I am cleaning my closet and bedroom today, better get started. Hope you have a nice day. Are you going out to eat or anything today? I hope Russ is better from his cold. Winter colds are so miserable. My son has one right now. Lots.

Hi Reed. As Pauly said, very cold here. I had to ask a boy to help me cross an icy patch of street. Good thing I'm not shy for the asking. Actually, he was very nice and glad to help.
Felt great today. They have built a big ice castle in one of the parking lots at Mall of America, but it was too cold to go.
Sounds like you are doing pretty good. What if you hadn't discovred that the cooker was not turned on until you were ready to eat? That would have been a big disappointment.
I made myself a nice supper - tilapia, lettuce with balsamic vinegar, rice/corn/black bean pilaf, and clementines with blueberries
Tomorrow morning out to breakfast with some girlfriends. I am not at all tempted by the pancakes or waffles - it's the 3 egg omelets that call to me.
Hope Russ's procedure goes okay.
I wish the three amigos the Happiest of New Year!!!

Hi Reed, boy did I have a day. I promised to meet my friend to go to a movie and lunch. She asked me to meet her at this mall called Tyson's Corner. It is where all the rich people in DC shop, and I have never been there before. It is down in the busy part of the city so Chris was nice and offered to drop me off. Thank goodness, that place was crazy, there were at least 10 parking ramps and a million stores. We went to see Les Miserables and it was really fantastic. I am glad I went with a girl, because we both were crying often. It was such a good show. I hardly ever go to movies, just wait for them to come on Netflix.
We walked around a while and it was just too fancy for me. I like my plain old mall better. Then Chris came to pick me up after lunch and forgot which ramp he parked the car in. We ended up walking around the mall for an hour and a half looking for the right exit, so I saw a lot of the stores and I think the stuff in there was worth a told of the GNP of a small country! It was way over the top.
I am starting to dislke "stuff" and I am going to go through everything I have and get rid of most of it. I am planning on moving soon, back into my townhouse and I want to have a light load when I go.
I hope you are all ready for 2013. I think we are going to all have a good year, 13 is my lucky number! I hope that Russ is feeling better and his cold is going away. I bet he will be glad when January 2 is done and I hope he has a good recovery.
Are you going to stay up tonight to watch the ball drop in Times Square? I proabably will since I have the day off tomorrow and can relax all day. I am feeling pretty energized after all that walking. Talk to you later. I hope you have a nice New Year's Eve. Lots.

Thank you for your warm welcome to an old time diabetic. It's good for me to be involved with folks who understand the trials and tribulations we diabetics undergo more then we like to admitt to. So have a very Happy New Year.

Well it looks like we made it past the "end of the world"! I guess all the Mayans were out at WalMart buying new calendars last week. But another trip around the sun and we are all mostly almost kinda nearly intact. Glad your knees are giving you a little 'break', and your new pictures are great. I have not heard from you in a few days so I can only hope you are not ticked at me for my own lack of messaging lately.
We are spending the last weeks of 2012 and first week of 2013 at our getaway place in the country. It is so comfy here - relaxing (at least when the company goes home) and QUIET! Amazing how one gets used to sirens 'n buses 'n loud car stereos in the city and when we come out here there is nothing like that - not even street lights at night - complete darkness! Znc just birds in our new feeders as we try to figure out what does and doesn't work to attract and feed them. The snowfall we got just before Christmas is still beautiful and, on our own place - pristine - no neighbours or their dogs to make all those tracks.
We walk almost daily here - a couple hours most days and about once a week we spend an entire day hiking (followed by an entire day resting!) It's wonderful and the whole idea of returning to the city and tax season is nothing short of depressing. Even our blood sugar readings are much better here. Dave and I both take less meds for his heart and my diabetes. It always amazes me how much of our ill health is due to stress. I have so many stubborn allergic skin problems at home that are easiily treatable here.
But I wish for you another full year of being Reed and being here, Reed. You are a valuable part of this community and I try to get here almost every day to see what is happening with my friends, via the Seagator Water cooler. However, internet in the boonies is a bit scarce and a lot pricey! I have to restrict my onliou ne time and usually end up playing in the chat room here when I can. I have not seen you in chat so I guess maybe you don't enjoy that kind of 'rapid fire'. It is a bit tricky to follow sometimes and typing quickly is difficult for many people. But it's fun sometimes to just scroll back and read what people are talking about today. Like I had not heard about Hilary Clinton - til I read your note and checked MSN. She is a strong woman and I know she will bounce back.
Well, looks like another 'batch' of guests is arriving - just for today though. Dave and I have our own little 'cheese 'n crackers' party tonight - our 'tradition' for New Years. My mother turns 92 today so I hope she will take my call later on, but she sometimes does not.
Don't get TOOO drunk tonight, my friend! Hangovers are not a good way to start a new year, but I also know you don't overdo. My New Year's resolution is the same as last year - to NOT make any more New Year's Resolutions! I'm better off without the pressure!
Take care, good sir and, if you haven't guessed my message yet - Happy New Year!

Hi Reed, very very cold here. we have about 6 to 8 inches on the ground. the lake looks frozen over, we are wondering when our crazy neighbor across the lake will start walking on it, something I am glad ed is not tempted to do. say, what did you put in with the pot roast? ed's fav is Bavarian pot roast, which is on a bed of apples and onions, with a little apple juice in there. We never stay up until midnight anymore, not sure what we're doing tonight for dinner. bg was 89 at 6AM and 117 at 8, so hopefully the numbers will stay good.

You mentioned getting a couple bags of licorice!! I get chocolates, and iced wine! The later being pretty much 100% liquid sugar....this from folks who KNOW I have diabetes. Also, from a very good friend I got scented candles...when she knows scents are a trigger to my migraines and the asthma! In fact....she TOO has asthma, and claims that scents are a trigger!!! What can I say!

Reed, I am going to echo you in saying that I feel much better than I deserve to!!! Slept solid like a baby. BG still whacky from the prednisone, but I only have to take it for two more days.
Went to Target and got a toasty pair of bedroom slippers, half off! People were going nuts over the wrapping paper, cards, and decorations, also on sale.
It got up to 20 here but seemed really chilly.
The Vikings were playing our big rival, the Green Bay Packers. There were lots of people in town from Wisconsin, wearing hats shaped like a wedge of cheese, hence the name "cheese heads". I have not looked to see who won yet.
I a going to do some straightening, work on my Christmas card list, and then relax on the couch.
Love the pic of you squished in the pew. I remember as a child our church being very drafty in the winter - probably felt good to sit close to someone.

Hi Mr Gator, Hope Russ is doing better. Still cold up here. Went to mass last night, not a lot of people there. Seems once the holidays end the church kinda empties out. I suppose you are at mass as I write this.

Hi Reed, we got about 5 inches yesterday, very light, so I doubt ed will get out the snowblower. i was 169 at 6AM so I took a little bolus and surprise, 113 before breakfast. sure hope they delivered the NewYork Times to the market today, I hate to miss my Sunday paper.

hi Reed, it's been snowing a lot today. we have at least 3 additional inches, so pretty with all our trees. predicting 3 to 6. I'm making homestyle bread, ed's fav. I had a nice time at the luncheon yesterday, it took us a long time to drive there and back, and there was TOO MUCH FOOD. sorry, but I find when there's too much, it's not as appetizing. anyway, with 3 diabetics there we were sorely tested. nice to get out and solcialize. went to the librbary today. there's a new book about prayer from a favorite author of mine, Anne Lamott and I saw online they have it. so I went by and asked to be on the list waiting for it. bgs all over the place. this morning i went from 81 at 4AM to 93 at 6AM to 148 at 7 AM, all before coffee or anything.

HI Reed- As I write this note, I am watching the snow fall on the ground and on the streets. It is very beautiful b/c I can watch it from indoors. We will stay in today and tonight and watch the snow, we really didn't have any last year and I missed it. It will be getting much colder this week, down into the 20's during the day and teens at night. Thanks for your note, Jim's inr went up to 2.5 he was very happy about that. Hopefully, it stays there. My BG have been pretty good, some up's and down's like everyone else. Hope you have a Happy New Year, I am anxious for 2013 to start. Take Care. Cat
