Rose,
I would be happy to converse with Devin on this site through messages. Facebook is a security risk for me, and even registering here was a white knuckle act for me. I went through everything he has from the time I was 4. I remember clearly what I was thinking back then, and as a teen. There was a lot of "why me" and I was angry. I did make it through and found many things I could do. I became a success in spite of many negative attitudes.

Rose,
One more important thing. Being low BG or high is stressful to the body. BG also affects the brain and can bring on mania or depression. Being low (below 2.5) makes me manic and being high (over 8) starts a depression cycle.
If a person cannot keep tight low control, then aim a bit higher for BGs. Being stable almost anywhere will moderate bipolar and prevent most mood swings. Taking care of diabetes is very difficult if moods are swinging around. It's a trade off.

Rose,
I know 3 type 1s and they all have bipolar too, in fact I don't personally know a childhood type 1 that does not have bipolar. I have been told by two psychiatrists that if the gene is there, the heavy stress of early onset diabetes expresses the gene. I was bipolar 4 years after becoming diabetic when I was 4. Mental health of a bipolar is directly linked to stress. I try to avoid stress every way I can. I have found that diabetes and bipolar are easier to take by having a routine.
It's too bad cats cannot be official service animals because they are hard to walk on a leash and to transport. They are free spirits, but in the security of their homes, where they own everything and feel secure, they can perform this duty.
My cat friend Miss K fusses around me meowing when I need to eat. I am sure any dog or cat will do this because they can smell distress and they love us.

Rose,
I have been type 1 since 1959, so 51years last summer, coming up on 52 yeah!!! No complications yet. Diabetes takes 5 minutes a day to look after and I test twice monthly and get 5.5 A1Cs. Ultradian bipolar requires a whole lot more time to care for though.
Ask anything at all, I've seen just about everything by this time.
