Hi Maria! It is now over a year since we talked. I am eager to know how your diabetes is developing? I experienced a loss of a couple of kilos without increase in my HbA1C after starting Lantus 6, just recently increased to 8 IE. Supplementing with 2 IE novorapid per meal, all in all about 8 IE daily. Looks like I am at the same phase you were a year ago, wondering how long this will last.
Hey there haven't talked to you for awhile! How are you doing? I'm doing good now! Had a little while that wasn't quite as good but I'm doing better again now!!
omg i have wanted to be a biochemist since i was 15 but never could gather enough money to get into college- and then be able to support myself at the same time. I mean grants and scholarships are great, but what do you do with your husband at home? :( haha.
Glad to hear its going good :) Please see my one blog post to see how I'm wearing mine. I love that way!!! Also I really am not minding the site changes as I find them to be mostly painless and very easy :) Let me know what you think of my pump case, you mentioned wearing it in a pocket when you have one which is why I found a diferent way because I don't nearly always have one :)
I'm mostly a soprano, yes, but it has always been a hotly debated topic among those who work with me. I have had directors and teachers cast me in either direction and then argue over whether I'm a lyric mezzo or a lyric soprano...which I think has a lot to do with why I didn't go on to do an opera career. I love teaching high school voice though. They are so talented and so motivated. I sing for a few local churches as a soloist, too.
I'm so glad you're doing well with the pump so far. Those first few weeks with any new technology are always the hardest. To be honest, I don't remember much about my first years pumping, but I was in college with a hundred things on my mind and diabetes was unfortunately not the priority it should have been.
Good morning, Maria. Glad to have been of help. As you begin your pumping adventure, an ABSOLUTE MUST is the book Pumping Insulin, Fourth Edition by John Walsh. It will give you detailed instructions and explanations on every aspect of tuning and managing your pump. Best of luck!
Also I forgot to tell you that there should be a small cap like thing to snap in when you disconnect. There is one with every new set. Also I start mine with insulin tommorrow!!!! If you have ANY questions please ask and I will answer the best I can!
Thats GREAT!!! Thats kinda wierd that they didn't tell you how to dissconnect it!! It depends which sites your using? I'm using the Silhouettes but many begginners are on the quicksets. I don't know how to tell you if your on quicksets but I think their all pretty much the same. You should be able to squeeze the plastic part that is connected to the tube and just pull it right out. (i think the quicksets you lift it off) But you want to Suspend it first :)
I have the Paradigm 722 :) Thats great!! But I wonder if they don't do saline and you have training tom. I wonder that if not putting you on it tom.? Unless maybe since they don't do saline they make you have a few raining setions? I was just curious because the first time I ever went they put me on it with saline.
just wondering if you know more about when you start your pump? There was another delay so today is two weeks with saline for me and I'm starting insulin on monday!! Lets hope and pray nothing more comes up!!!
I saw your comment on Leanne's page. I understand the frustration waiting for a Nurse to call about starting! I knew I had mine coming, so they made me wait until it was delivered and in my hands. Then, it was agony waiting for the call back. It was delivered on the 7th, but I do saline on the 30th and insulin as of the 5th!
Hi! interesting to hear that you achieved good and "lasting" results on the Lantus regime, 1,5 y is quite long. My LADA was discovered late in pregnancy and I used 50 units of insulin divided evenly on short and intermediate action ( novorapid and insulatard), but am now down to ca 14 units daily, mostly novorapid 2-5 units with meals, insulatard 4-5 units nights. My first HbA1C after pregnancy came out 5,0! then it slowly increased to 6,0, even though I was damn strict about low carb because I was hoping to do without the novorapid.... Just as you I realized it wasnt enough, and once having to shoot for meals...why not add some carbs...dont want to risk a low do we... Have you been gaining weight since before your diagnosis?
Hi Maria!
I see you have LADA. Me too, and I am still in the honeymoon phase. I am curious to know how your diabetes was detected? Did you use insulin/lantus at night time in the first 1,5 years and do you remember the dosage?

Hi again!! I'm on my pump with saline and is going good so far!! I'm going on it with insulin on the 29th!! its kinda long but the trainer said without another delay that came up i would have been on it for a week like this anyway so its not too bad! If you have any questions about what i'm doing so far feel free to ask!!
