Hey Joanne! Read Bikette's comment below and had to laugh!! We had tried to train our first cat to walk on a leash (with harness)...after ending up dragging the cat around a few times, we gave up...didn't want the neighbours to report us lol. Some cats will not have ANYTHING to do with it...same with our second (and last) cat! However...there are cats that are frighteningly as close to a dog as you could ever get.... case scenario #1...I was waiting for the streetcar after work in Toronto, back in '78, along with a gentleman. It turned out to be his cat. The cat just sat there, by his "owner's" feet (cats HATE the reference of "owner", because they all think that it is THEY who owns US!)...ANYHOW, I thought the cat was a stray, till the street car arrived. The owner bent down, the cat jumped on his shoulder, and that's how they got into the street car. The cat passively sat beside the man for the whole ride...did not move, or look around! When we got to the subway station, the cat again jumped up the man's shoulder...and down they went to the platform. The cat jumped down, and proceeded to waited patiently at his side. The train noisily pulled in creating a gush of wind....not a concern with this cat...not even a twitch! Once more, the man bent down...the cat leaped to his shoulder...they entered the train...sat down, and off they went! I was awestruck! THERE WAS NO WAY my cat would have even come anywhere near a busy street (there is no surprise to the expression "scaredy cat"). Another experience of Super Cats was when Len and I went camping on a canoe trip, with 2 portages. THERE in the middle of Algonquin Park's most secluded area, was a canoe being paddled by a person at either ends, and a cat proudly sitting up in the middle! Where DO they GET these cats!!!!! Ya...saw the back to school ads....propaganda!! (just kidding!)...I'm simply NOT ready to go back!!! (Sigh!) Gotta get out of town for a bit before I the 27th (the first day back for teachers...kids return the day after Labour Day).
Just to get a sense of a longer vacation!
What are you up to as of late?? Gone anywhere on your vacation?
luv and hugs....linda
Hey Peetie - how's yer cat house? And what's a "summer vacation"? Summer just means I hafta stay inside with the AC on since I can't breathe that hot sticky stuff outside. I overheard people calling that stuff "air" but there's no way it does anything but suck my breath out! Fortunately I've got TONNNES to do inside and generally save all my inside 'chores' for July and August since it's kinda hot most summers ;-) So far I've rounded up a room full of old clothes, some new clothes and a buncha other 'gently used' stuff for the local Diabetes Group. Another of my summer projects is to "train" my cat, PITA.... now stop laughing. It could be done. I saw it on TV. She wears the harness no problem with a long leash attached to it and I use a feather on a stick to get her moving - inside - I think she tries to wrap the leash around and through as many loops and hinges as she can. First time we tried this 'walk on leash' game she went DIRECTLY down two sets of stairs and through the cat door! Dang cat knew perfectly well that me and my leash couldn't fit through there! It gets embarrassing after awhile this constantly being outsmarted by a critter with a brain the size of a pea. Speaking of which... it's pea season! And I love buying a bushel or so... ok, a big bag of em. They make great movie snacks for me and when I'm all done, I take the empty pods back and demand refills. not How's your little litter coming along?
Evening Peetie!! Well...the kids are all gone! Danielle moved out about a month ago, and Timothy and Steph spent their first whole day in their own house yesterday! The little ones came to their house (with their cats) this evening...they were spending the weekend with their other grandma. It's such a void here!!! I'm unfamiliar now to how utterly QUIET the house is!!! I keep the radio going...as the lack of constant sound is...well...deafening! The fridge is empty....gotta get some "stuffing"!! Funny thing happened yesterday. The neighbour told Len this morning that at around 11:30 last night some young people pulled up in our drive and headed up to the door with cases of beer!! We almost had a party lol. The neighbours redirected them to Timothy's place. Honestly...11:30! They undoubtedly were there 'till wee hours! Thank goodness it wasn't here! That's not for me anymore! My version of a party has GREATLY changed from my early 20s lol!! Funnier still....apparently the party folks and their beer never made it to Timothy's!!!!
Our children's birthdays are coming up....Danielle will be 28 on the 31st of July....and Timothy's is the following day, Aug. 1st....he'll be 26! Feels like just yesterday I was pushing them in a stroller! Sigh!
How's it all going at your end? Hope all is well with you :)
Take care of yourself ♥
luv and hugs....linda
Hi Joanne, It says its your Bday at the top of your page. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Hope you are doing well. My #s have been good, thanks for asking. I even lost a tenth off my A1c 5.9 to 5.8
GOOD MORNING PEETIE!! Whatcha up to today? How have you been feeling??? The kids here are packing like mad. They're moving out next Saturday...and get the keys Friday. The grandkids will be with the other grandma then. Our daughter has a new shift that entails her having to work some Sundays, and Stephen (her little guy) would then be babysat here by our daughter-in-law. However next Sunday, if that's the case... Stephen will be with her ex! Next Saturday will be a madhouse here!! On this coming Wednesday (the 18th), I'm helping out at a fundraiser with the Canadian Diabetes Association. It's an amazing day outside! Wishing YOU an awesome day :) Hugs....linda
"Stuff"!! How's the weather at your end...hot and muggy here...was going to weed after the brief rain shower we had here yesterday....but the air was very thick....and my back still recuperating from having washed the kitchen floor 3x over on all fours (the old fashion way) the day before, when our middle grandson Riley (2) decided to spit out his juice all over the place. I would have been arrested for what I toyed doing to him! The room that our daughter was in before moving into her own place is now taken up as a storage room for Timothy and Steph (son and d-i-l). (Our son and daughter and theirs were here since mid January since the house they shared burned to the ground. No one was hurt, except for 3 pets that perished. Our daughter has moved into a new apartment, and our son has purchased a house and they are moving out of our place mid July!) The storage unit they have rented is all full!!! They're moving into their own house starting the 19th of this month! The repeat empty nest syndrome lol. It sure will feel odd to have the whole house to ourselves again! Steph (d-i-l) has a bad ear/sinus infection. She went to a walk in clinic yesterday, and was put on meds, including ear drops. Early evening, her ear was bleeding, which is not uncommon with ear infections...but I nevertheless offered to take her to ER, knowing that we'd be there for at least 6 hours...no no no...she didn't want to go. Midnight, as I'm coming out of the washroom to go to bed, she and Timothy are at the kitchen table...seems that now she feels she should take me up on that earlier offer. I said to her, "you realize that we'll be there all night 'till mid morning anyway!" She had gone to the internet, and of course got frightened by the comments and suggested diagnoses of her bleeding ear! (sigh....who listens to me!!) So I said..."call telehealth" (a telephone access here, that helps to give you a heads up about your symptoms). They basically paraphrased my comment to her..."you have been seen, you DO have an ear infection which may bleed, you are on medication for it, you do NOT have cancer nor have you suffered trauma to the head. Call your doctor in the morning if it is still bleeding" Who listens to me!!! So this morning, she called her doctor who will see her at....3pm, and the appointment was later changed to 7pm! Guess the doc doesn't share her concern!! So...life goes on in the Miller household! Sounds SO much like a soap that I should ask you to stay tuned tomorrow...same time same station! hugs and best wishes....linda
Bonjour Peetie!!! Long past 4 days! Bet it was the same for you! My classroom is clean....student's hours of French are recorded....made some copies in prep for September ...and designed a new game to help in French. Yesterday was the last of the 2 day First Aid course....I passed! But MOSTLY yesterday was the LAST DAYfor teachers at our school!!! I'M OFF 'TILL THE LAST WEEK OF AUGUST!!!!! I was to meet up with other teachers yesterday at a colleague's house for a little year end celebration. Got in the car, started it, and the car said....clickclickclickclickclick! I remember we had that trouble last year....has to do with the car's AC/starter! So Len boosted the car, and all seemed fine, but I wasn't pushing it and decided to stay home instead! Right now I feel fine, but yesterday I was a little off and sugars were a tad high! Could be the heat...it was very hot today also! Slept in this morning ...'till 9!!! What bliss! Today is our youngest grandson's 2nd birthday! Tomorrow, our 33rdAnniversary....dinner out perhaps. Sunday is Canada Day! Doing a picnic and whatnot...water park for the kids, followed by the usual city wide fireworks at dusk.! What about YOU?? Luv....linda
I think some people are more sensitive to the poison plants than others. I can (and do) get covered with poison ivy, including eyes swollen closed, while at the same time my husband gets a little patch that he hardly notices. When I was a teenager, I went to a beach party where some fool burned poison oak in the campfire, the smoke covering us all. I was bedridden with it, my entire body covered, and have had episodes ever since, though none as bad as that first. Thank goodness steroids work, but they do play havoc with blood sugar. Oh well, Cheers!
Good morning, Joanne, thanks for asking. The poison ivy isn't too bad, just on my arms. I've had cases that required a lot of steroids, but I think I just got this second hand from petting the dogs. I have learned to never bury my face in their fur this time of year!
Peetie, you got me thinking strongly about Sandy. She was just a pure love. when I met Manny in 2009, about 6 months after she died, I will never ever forget the look in his eyes when I brought up her name. I decided to become more involved in TuD to honor her memory. I thought if I could do 1% of what she did here to help others, well, you know. it didn't matter to her if you were type 1, type 2, whatever, if you needed help, she was there. funny, I never knew what type she was, I had to look at her profile to see (LADA). here's our tribute page to her
Thanks, Joanne! Dunno about the wise comments. We're approaching hot/dry weather, not counting thunderstorms, leading up to 94 degrees. Expect we'll do a bit of grilling and settle down for a nice long summer weekend. The birds and butterflies are fun to watch; we have a pair of Rosebreasted Grosbeaks nesting and an active pair of hummers among others. The dogs are overheated; our Goldens are not summer dogs.
NutThins are a good alternative to chips; they have more carbs than I'd like, but really are a good cracker. They come in various varieties -- pecan, hazelnut, almond. I find them in some supermarkets, often in the gluten-free section, and in health food stores. In this hot weather, I tend toward my Daura gluten-free beer. So -- have a good weekend; Cheers!
Chard, NutThins w/cream cheese. 87 degrees today, which I think ia a record. We hung some petunia baskets today for the hungry bees and butterflies. Happy Summer (for right now, anyway) and Cheers!

Thankyou Joanne! He is home, but not really feeling that good. He really is as sweet as he comes across on the boards here.

Hi Joanne. I'm not familiar with Baco Noir -- going to have to try it. In the meantime, mostly Chard with Nut-Thins, a little added guacamole. Cheers!
