Sorry another question i haven't really noticed much yet. I am still eating a lot. Will that change once i keep upping my dosage? I have done 30 today, but gonna wait to see what my dr. says next week til i go up anymore.
Hi i have a question.....well i just started the symlin a few days ago. Just a little bit ago i decided to try 30 mcg instead of 15 and it hurt more going in and then im not sure if it was in my head but i felt a little instand nausea. Just wondering if that is normal or not? Thanks.

Thanks for the encouragement...that in itself is such a big help. Diabetes is one of the toughest things I have ever had to deal with. It does help to see other people dealing with the same problems and reading of their solutions and stories.
It's Good to meet you here. I'm Very Glad that your Dr. did those battery of tests and dxd. you, so that you could get your Diabetes under control.
Wonderful to hear that the low-carb is working for you. You've done Well. Yes, we have to experiment to see what works for
us individually. The Doctors/Dieticians advice is our guideline.
I hope that you learn many things here at TuDiabetes and feel free to share your experiences and suggestions. Take Care....
I am continuing with the low carb and am now decreasing my Lantus at night. I haven't had any Apidra(short term insulin) since I started the low carb. I did make some low carb muffins (7 carbs per muffin) and had one for breakfast and one for supper. Only raised my count a little. My biggest problem is M&M Peanut. My husband got them for Easter and I had to move them to his office so I wouldn't start eating them.
Sure hope I can keep this up as I feel so much better and have actually lost 2 pounds (which is better than putting 2 pounds on!)
I would be interested in hearing from anyone else trying the low carb thing.
Smile!!!
I have been through all the oral meds with no success and short term (Apidra) and Lantus. I am still on Lantus but have now gone from 36 units down to 32 and still declining. I spoke with my Doctor last week after going back(way before I knew I had diabetes) to my Low carb diet. I haven't taken any Apidra in 2-1/2 weeks. I still have it if I should "fall off" the low carb thing. I just feel so much better.
I am sure it isn't for everyone, but these Doctors that are telling us that we have to have a certain number of carbs (it differs with educators and Doctors). And Not having carbs is bad. Having a High A1C is bad...not having carbs is good! When I am on a low carb diet..my A1C is 5 %. When on 'their' diet it is over 7%. I know everyone is different...but I wish the Doctors (mine is really good) would realize that.
I had Kidney stone blasting and had nothing to eat and my sugar shot up over 300. So...in that case the Apidra did really well. Metformin was useless when I was ill and had no help when I was eating carbs. Made me have cramps and the runs also.
So - Just to let everyone know that there are No pat solutions. You really have to find what is best for YOU! The Doctors do not have all the answers. I do actual grams of carbs not what the AD says is a carb. I think it is not strict enough. (15 grams of carb equat 1 carb). I try to keep my meals and snacks to 16 carbs or less. I do take a multi vitamin and will drink Light Cranberry juice mixed half and half with water. An Apple for a snack.
Don't know if that helps anyone else..but hope it does.
hi dora, just sending this welcome to tu diabetes your way. sorry i'm late better late than never. yes, i was battling high blood sugars for a while till they put me on metformin, and lantus along with my glipizide. sometimes we will have drawbacks, it's because of the tolerance level in our body fighting this monster so sometimes it can take months to years before we have to change meds or add more. but who knows your body more you, right. you take care and write me anytime. patti
Low Carb is the way I have to go. I am on Apidra short term insulin and Lantus. Even with Apidra, I have to keep to a low carb as anything over 30 carbs send my sugar up. I recently had a kidney stone blasted and it keep my blood sugar in the 200's no matter what I did or took. I had a waffle (no sryup) and it shpt my sugar up to 389 even though I had taken 8 units of Apidra. I had to take another 10 units to get it down to 'normal'. The Doctor told me that my diabetes is generic. I had no idea that I had diabetes and found out when she did a battery of tests to get established with her. Good thing!
