I moved here from Boston in '80s and can't see moving anywhere else. Too bad your very active lifestyle as a runner has not held things back on the diabetes side. I'm certain though the running has had countless other payoffs. On the football side, I used to be a niners fan until the team seemed to have lost all interest in winning another superbowl.

Stay well!

Hi, My name is Kimberly and My son is the diabetic. We were told he was type 2 in 2005 and just 2 wks ago john almost died of DKA from diabetes. I couldnt believe what was happening to him because I didnt think that could happen to type 2. now different doctors say he is considered type 1 and was probable type 1 in the beginning. He lives almost 4 hours away and Its the worst worring feeling a mom can have to not know how his days are. He recently got married and his wife doesnt know much yet. I've been trying to teach her but theres so many changes now. John doesnt have insurence and had Medicaid while he was younger but they droppped him at age 18. Its been a fight to get help for him and supplies. I've been a member of this site for about 2 years but had lost touch for awhile. now I'm trying to get my son to connect hear but feel he isnt interested. I hope things get easier for you and you can adjust to the change. really like the story and I know it will help others to not feel so alone. This desease seems to be spreading almost like cancer. thanks again. Kimberly

Welcome home fellow Canadian/fellow type 2!
This is a great place to share, to learn, and to grow...all the while meeting new people world wide, and making friends ♥
Take a peek at some the groups when you get a chance. Just go to the top of your page, and click on "Groups". Once in, you can either peruse the wide array of available groups....or simply type a specific interest in the space provided. Take in some of the blogs/discussions and take a look at the Canada Embassy page as well, by going to the headings in the aqua coloured box in the upper left hand of the home page. Click on "DHF Grassroots". Once you're in scroll down, click on "Canada embassy", and voilà! The house in the photo is where Dr. Frederick Banting lived and had his medical practice in London, Ontario, Canada...before going to the University of Toronto to work on diabetes research, and ultimately the discovery of Insulin.
Hope you find the support and information you came looking for. Here is a useful link to get you on your way:
Take care....and keep in touch!

Welcome to the family!! On this forum you will learn so much. Most of all you will learn that you are not alone. Everyone here is supportive and will provide answers to your questions. Search the site for answers. Read the discussions and blogs for information. There are videos to help you understand diabetes and its treatment. Most of all there is family to talk to and even to vent to, if needed. Welcome home.
