Greetings from a Canadian Soul , insulin-dependent, since 1977, 91 years, young, living in TORONTO, where INSULIN was discovered by DRS.BANTING & BEST July 30 1921. As ROLE MODEL reaching over 40.000, walking the walk and talking the talk, my advice to newly-diagnosed is 1. have a good diabetic specialist, 2 wear a MEDIC-ALERT identification, it SPEAKS for you in case of emergencies, 3, have a DIABETIC BUDDY, someone you are in DAILY contact, they could SAVE your life, 4, listen to your body, it tells you when to sleep, eat, rest and exercise. I dont know, I think having someone hanging in my skin at all times kinda freaks me out. Don't get me wrong, i've read the upsides of having one, but I'm not sure I could get used to having one on me constantly... yikes

Hi Kathy! Thanks for the friend invite. I'm glad you like my photos too - I find it very therapeutic to spend time making visual art that's diabetes-related. My lizard, Smeagol, is a savannah monitor. He's an awesome critter. They're aggressive by nature, but I spend lots of time with him so he's very tame. I love all animals, but I've developed a soft spot for reptiles since they're less appreciated and often feared. They're so interesting and fun to learn about and I love taking care of them.

What do you do in social services? I'm an art therapist.

hey kathy!

thank you for the birthday wishes! I appreciate the note. I was able to celebrate with my twin sister and all the family (my birthday fell on thanksgiving this year); so it was quite a treat to see everyone.
