Hi Hebrew, I just joined this site looking for a support group of around 20yr for my son. He has had diabeties since he was 1.5yr. Not to sound cold, but that is how I am , rough around the edges, If your kid can use a cell phone, she will have no issues learning the pump. I know is is a bit scarry for you and for that I am sorry.
PS; verry sorry about any spelling. I know that I am bad.

We live in the Dallas area and my daughter is starting on an insulin pump next month. I'm not sure what the process is elsewhere, but we have a several-step process to complete before we can get a pump. The last step is for us to attend a 2-day class with our daughter. The first day of the class, they do the site insertion and have her wear the pump for the weekend, but they put saline in the pump instead of insulin. For these few days, she will wear and pump and still have to get her shots. 4 days later, we go back to the class and they make sure we understand everything and fill the pump with insulin. After that, we have to fax over her blood sugar logs regularly to make sure her insulin levels are good.

Welcome to the family! On this forum you will learn so much. Most of all you will learn that you are not alone. Everyone here is supportive and will provide answers to your questions. Search the site for answers. Read the discussions and blogs for information. There are videos to help you understand diabetes and its treatment. Most of all there is family to talk to and even to vent to, if needed. Welcome home.
