Hello! How Do You Do, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you Jamie... Best Wishes NOW...and for the rest of the year!
How's it all going? Do you have any questions or comments?
I am also a member of this group and a Type 1 Diabetic. I thought you might be interested in meeting other Type 1s and wanted to let you know that I am the organizer of a meetup group called G.A.T.E.-Gastroparesis And Type1 Diabetes Exchange.
It is for Type 1s as well as for those with Gastroparesis and their caregivers. You can have either condition separately and don't need to have both to join. It is a support and activities group for people with similar conditions to interact, network, participate in discussions, ask questions, share experiences, or to vent frustrations. I will also have guest speakers periodically.
This is a new group that will meet in Union City on the third Sunday of each month starting May 17. If you would like to learn more, please check us out
Jamie, thanks for asking about the race! It went ok, but I definitely did NOT run a PR. Ugh. I was having so much trouble because I was coming down with a sinus infection. My bg was pretty high the night before and did not want to come down (I guess because I was fighting that sinus problem!). I got it down by morning, and started out at 127 before the run, checked right before mile 3 at 117 (NICE!) and at the end of the race was 41!! Ouch. The last mile was soooo tough, but I really did not think I was low, even though I felt really thirsty and tired and lost motivation. I kicked myself afterwards for not realizing that those were symptoms of a rapidly dropping bg!! Geez. Live and learn, I guess. But, at least I finished!! :) My goal is to do better on the next one. :)
Are you running any races any time soon?? Do you ever run 8Ks? I really like that distance.
Hey Jamie, thanks for the comment on my A1C! My endo called me at my office to tell me the results of all my labs the other week. She's never called me AT WORK before to talk to me about it, so I was kind of surprised. She was really concerned at my last appt because I have been running low, especially after running. She thinks I can tinker with my basals and prevent the post-run lows that way, but I told her that I would just need to drink Gatorade or something because I don't know how it the world you can keep your bg up while running without carbs. I have been trying to keep my postprandials *really tight* so I think that's why I've been having hypos. They've gotten better in the last couple of weeks, though. :)
I hope you are doing better after the icky bug you had!! Ugh, I hate it when I catch something like that.
Hope you have a great day,
Katie
hey Jamie! I hope you are doing well. Thanks for the encouragement with my mileage log for the 500 DR challenge!! You could probably tell from my log that January wasn't that great of a month for me, distance-wise, because it seemed like I was constantly struggling with lows, and could hardly ever get further than 3 miles! I have changed my basal routine and ramped up the length of my runs, though, because my brother and I signed up for the Shamrock 8K in VA Beach on March 15. I am so excited!! So, hopefully I will have more miles to post the next time around. :)
Speaking of races, congrats on the excellent 5K virtual race!!
Katie
Hi Jamie! I'm glad I saw your page while browsing through members. I used to be a cross country runner and am now getting back in shape. It was my dream to run a marathon someday and I hope it's still possible!
Hey Jamie! Thanks for the encouragement with the challenge! I think what I'm going to do is track my miles for January on paper (and on sugarstats) and then post a log on Feb. 1 on a blog post on my page on TuDiabetes, and then the same thing for February and March and so on. I wish I were as high-tech as you, with the Nike+ and the cool calendars and everything on your website!!
How is the tri training going? Hope you are doing well,
Katie
Hey Jamie,
Very intresting blog.....Ive been getting into running on and off for the past 6 months as my father is an avid runner. How often do you test on runs and do you have a set schedule of times/miles to check at. Also how do you handle lows while on a run. It seems that wheneverr they hit it always get freaked out and quit for the day.....any tips suggestions would be great. Happy holidays
