LOL - I see that Katie is doing the same thing as I am - offering my help. I came to your Home Page to see where you live - and offer my help (I have worked in Daycare with diabetic kids - and I'm a diabetic (kid at heart myself). I live in Montreal tho' - a wee bit of a drive to Georgia (have a few friends in Atlanta area). Hope you get a break! I know what I put my Mum thru' as a youngster - she needed a bungee cord attached to me - to not have me wandering off!!!

Hello Lisa! I just referred you to safesittings.com on your blog post, but upon clicking on your profile, saw that you too live in GA! My name is Katie Craft and I am a diabetic sitter that lives in Athens, GA. Here's just a little more about me.

I am 22 years old and have had diabetes since I was 12. As a kid, I attended a camp for kids with diabetes, and that experience really changed my life. Meeting such a supportive network of friends that understood exactly what I was going through was such a gift. I whole-heartedly believe in the benefits of Diabetes Camp and have worked at several camps across the country and the globe as a counselor for the last 3 years. In addition to caring for my own diabetes over the last 9 years, I have also completed two counselor in training sessions and four staff training summer sessions where the staff are extensively trained in dealing with all kinds of situations involving kids and their diabetes. I check blood sugars, give insulin injections, use most pumps with ease, know the protocol for lows, highs, high activity, etc. I really truly love working with diabetic children. They are so inspirational : )

Normally I am available after 4pm Mon-Thurs and all day Saturday and Sunday, but the weekdays might be harder since you live so far away. The weekends would definitely be doable though.

Sorry to bombard you! haha. I just realized that may have come on a bit strong. I am really searching for work right now though. I just moved back home to GA from California a few weeks ago, and do not have any new clients here yet.

How did the first day of Pre-K go?

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. I haven't been on here in awhile.
Reed is on a pump (since July) and doing much better than he did on shots.
How is Isabelle doing?

It seems like our families are on similar time-tables...although your daughter is younger than TJ (he just turned 6).

How are you all holding up? It's amazing what a different lifestyle it is, but how it becomes second nature in many ways, too.

This is Reed, age 5, he was dxd @ age 3 and it was devastating for our family. After a few weeks, he got used to the shots and we didn't have to hold him down. We used a star chart that helped a lot! Everytime he was still when we pricked him he would get 1 star and everytime he was still when he got a shot he got 2 stars. After he completed a row of stars we would give him a treat. It really worked great! Be blessed! Hang in there, I know it's hard, but it DOES get better!

I read your comment on Travis's page. My two-year-old daughter was diagnosed in February. I have to fight her to get her shots in her and some days it is so hard. I hope things continue to get easier for you and your little girl.

Hi Lisa my son Jared was dx Type 1 12/28/04 when he was 5. It's been fairly smooth going so far. Good luck. You'll get the hang of it.

Hi Shelby was 27 months when she was dxd. And we have been doind shots for a year and a half now!!! But Tuesday She switches to the pump!!! But having a little one with T1 is very hard because they don't fully understand. But I can tell you things have gotten so much better for us. When we went to Lantus and Novolog it really felt like we had our daughter back the NPH and R almost KILLED ME!!! but shelby's A1C's are perfect and things are going well now. How are you doing???? Things get better I promise please write me when you have time we both have small kids and stay at home so feel free to write me anytime!!!!!!!

I'm curious what you're using with your daughter. What type of meter? Also have you found out about the BD lancets that are 33 gauge, they're the least painful that I've found to date.
