Hello Amy, I had gestational insuline dependant diabetes with my first child ,so I knew I would be confronted with the same issue with my second. We went ahead and had her anyways. I got checked very early on and sure enough boom there it was. Here we go again! I now am on oral meds for Type II since my second child was born. I knew the risks going into the pregnancy, even at code blue with the first. I just figured I knew how to take care of myself from experience with my first. The code blue was a freak infection that happens 1 outta 1000 pregnancies. My doctor of 30yrs in medical field had never experienced it. So I initially took action in my husbands and I's initially conversation of planning our child. My mom was a type I diabetic and died when I was 12, so. I knew the risks. A lot of people thought we were nuts, but it was worth it. She was a healthy 8lbs 9oz baby girl!! :-)

very true! its proven that diabetics can live longer healthier lives than non diabetics if they take care of themselves. i am glad to see the girl from american idol doing the one touch commercials. i know she keeps pretty quite about it but shes a good role model. she doesnt use diabetes as a crutch or for sympathy and she make it to second place in idol which shows that you can do anything even with diabetes and shes young so it will reach that demographic.

Hi Amy, thank you for reaching out to me! I'd love to be interviewed as part of your website. I love the idea of focusing of women & diabetes. I do believe we have a unique set of challenges to deal with. Please let me know how and when I can contribute! : )

Fantastic, Amy! I just emailed our producer to be sure the studio is available that day/time. I would love an e-copy of your book. My email address is:
heather@yourdiabetespartners.com and our program can be heard at www.transformingdiabetes.com if you want to listen in to hear what we're like :) before we talk with you. Your feedback would be super, too. I'll be in touch soon! Thank you for making the time to talk with us. We look forward to it! Heather

Great Amy!
Tuesdays are great for us too. What about Tues. June 21 at 1:30 PM our (pacific) time - is that 4:30 your time? Could I get a copy of your book in advance? Is it available yet?
Thanks! If that date doesn't work we'll have to look into July, as I'll be at ADA in San Diego then on vacation. Thanks, Heather

I’d love to talk more . . . but would be best if you knew a little more about me! Can you send me an email at: partners@partnersandpeers.org ? (All the messages sent to that address come directly to me . . . at least for now!)

I was at the 2010 DiabetesSisters Weekend for Women and enjoyed it very much . . . And Brandy is awesome! I too, have a special interest in the needs of Women with Diabetes, with a slightly different twist. . . Helping women with diabetes learn how to honor and be comfortable in their own bodies!

I find it interesting that when you think about it, your desire goes back to the very beginning of your diabetes. I believe that each of us has a mission and purpose in life that we are uniquely qualified to carry out . . . And that the calling and desire is there long before we make formal plans or really know what it is all about. I am excited to see what comes of this for you, and for women with diabetes who will find the support they need because you answered your calling! Have you checked out the DiabetesSisters.org site?

Hey Amy,

Thanks for asking me to be your friend!

I’m curious about your book . . . “The Smart Women’s Guide to Diabetes” Any particular experience of life that led to your interest in writing about women?

Hi Amy,

I'd be happy to help out. I have to warn you though, all my experiences are NOT positive. It's no picnic traveling with D.
