Dr. Brian Mowll is the founder and medical director of SweetLife® Diabetes Health Centers and serves clients worldwide as The Diabetes CoachTM. He is a certified diabetes educator (CDE) and was one of the first doctors to be certified to practice functional medicine by the prestigious Institute for Functional Medicine.

Since 1998, Dr. Mowll has been helping people with all forms of diabetes properly manage their complex health conditions. Additionally, with type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes, and metabolic syndrome, his goal is to not just manage, but to reverse these conditions using a natural, personalized lifestyle approach.

TuDiabetes Live interview with Jennifer Smith RD, LD, CDE "Diabetes and Pregnancy"

Jennifer holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Nutrition and Biology from the University of Wisconsin. She is a Registered (and Licensed) Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educator, and Certified Trainer on most makes/models of insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring systems. She is an active member of the American Diabetes Association, American Association of Diabetes Educators and was an active member and educator for Team WILD (We Inspire Life with Diabetes). She is also a contributing author for the Diabetes Sisters website. Jennifer currently works as Director of Lifestyle and Nutrition for Gary Scheiner at Integrated Diabetes Services.

Jennifer has lived with type 1 diabetes since she was 13. She has first-hand knowledge of the numerous day-to-day events that affect diabetes management. In 2008 she attended a diabetes-specific sports training camp where she discovered her passion for achieving her personal fitness goals while living healthfully with diabetes. In 2009 she successfully completed her first 70.3, Half Ironman triathlon. This brought a deeper understanding of athletic training requirements when living with diabetes as well as the importance of nutrition to realize athletic goals. Jennifer has completed numerous half marathons, long distance cycling events (many for the ADA’s Tour de Cure) and completed her first full marathon in January 2014.

Jennifer and her husband Nathan share their home with their son Oskar (12/20/12), their new puppy Franklin and cat Cornelius. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys running, cycling, swimming, yoga, and kayaking. A culinary “experimenter”, she is fond of cooking and baking, with an eye on vegetarian and allergen free food options. As a talented dietitian, diabetes educator, athlete, new Mom and person with diabetes, she is in a unique position to assist clients with intensive diabetes management.

TuDiabetes Chat with Joe Solowiejczyk RN, MSW, CDE

Joe Solowiejczyk is a healthcare professional who has lived with Type 1 diabetes for 52 years. He is President and founder of A Mile in My Shoes, a company that publishes books & produces videos on patient self-management and psychological coping as well as providing counseling and training to patients, families and health care professionals.

Having worked in the filed of diabetes for over 35 years, Joe’s work focuses on translating his personal & professional experiences into unique patient care programs. As a nurse, diabetes educator and family therapist, he specializes in assessing how family dynamics impact the management of diabetes and designs interventions that result in more effective coping and optimal metabolic control.

Joe works extensively with both patients and professionals on the Family-Approach to Diabetes Management. He works with pediatric patients and their families in hospital clinics and private physicians’ offices, and conducts workshops nationally and abroad for parents to help them cope with their child’s diagnosis and daily challenge of living with diabetes. He designs educational and counseling programs for both children and adults with diabetes, as well as seminars for health care professionals on integrating family therapy into clinical practice.

Constance Brown-Riggs, MSEd, RD, CDE, CDN—an award-winning RD, certified diabetes educator, and national spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, is the author of The African American Guide to Living Well With Diabetes, which received the Favorably Reviewed designation from the American Association of Diabetes Educators; Eating Soulfully and Healthfully with Diabetes; and the forthcoming book Enjoying the Flavors of the World: A Diabetes Carbohydrate and Fat Gram Guide.

Over the course of her career, Constance has established herself as an expert in nutrition, diabetes, and the cultural issues that impact the health and health care of people of color. Her work has appeared in books for health professionals and health care consumers, and she has been a featured expert in national magazines such as Essence, Real Health, Heart & Soul, Diabetic Living, Diabetic Cooking, and Diabetes Forecast, and in newspapers across the country. She also is a regular contributor to Today’s Dietitian, also serving on the magazine’s advisory board, and to MSNBC’s theGrio.com.

Constance is past president of the New York State Dietetic Association and the Long Island Dietetic Association. Her professional honors include the 2012 Award for Excellence in Consultation and Business Practice from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the 2009 Distinguished Dietitian Award from the New York State Dietetic Association, and the 2007 Diabetes Educator of the Year from the American Dietetic Association Diabetes Care and Education Practice Group.
