My diabetes nightmare - Making Sense of Diabetes (touch)

Sorry if this video scares out some of you. I had to share it...

One night, I woke up from a nightmare, perhaps because I had been thinking about these things in connection with the Making Sense of Diabetes contest we were running at the time.

What are YOU afraid of?

First, Manny, thanks for being so open and honest with us. I often think we all put on a great face and sound good, but behind us the d-boogie person is right there scaring us. So thanks for "scaring" us a little. What is my biggest fear with my own "D"? My family wasn't the healthiest in the world...smokers, heart attacks, strokes, arthritis, emphasyema, pretty much you name it, and then throw in diabetes on stop of all that. I turned 60 last year, and all of the sudden my body started to retaliate, even though I have been taking good care of myself. Knees went, eyes started to get weaker, neck developed bone spurs, my weigh loss stopped, and my sugars although good weren't always great....my fear is that I will adopt the illnesses of my ancestors and all my hard work will have been in vain.

I CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING

Wow!!! Yes, thank goodness it was a nightmare and only the sleeping/in bed kind. It is a really good reminder of how things can change very quickly. I know someone who had good control, stubbed his toe, it got infected and he lost it. That simple. Take care of yourself and be on the lookout everyday.

If the volume sounds low, click on the little speaker symbol while hovering on the video. That lets you raise the volume.

This is hard to listen to, but at the same time is compelling and delivers an important message.

I know... I know. I watch the video again and I even bring myself down! :*(

It was just a way to get it off my chest. It was a bad nightmare.

Dude, you're bringing me down. My endo always does the foot exam. (I 'touched' on this in the Diabetes Touch video.)

Go back to sleep. Your feet will be good to you if you're good to them.

powerful. My doctor always does the filament - not just on the bottom of my feet, but on top and sides of many toes. Being a member of TuD has helped me remember to wear at least slippers around the house, and Ed and I check each other's feet more often (my husband is type 2)

Good point! Probably it would be better to say, elevated blood sugar values sustained for very long periods of time = uncontrolled?
