Join us for a live interview with Brandy Barnes, founder of DiabetesSisters, and Natalie Strand, 2010 winner of The Amazing Race, both of whom have diabetes! Brandy and Natalie recently teamed up to publish the book A Woman’s Guide to Diabetes, and they join us here to talk about the book, about their individual endeavors as women with diabetes, and to celebrate International Women’s Day, which is March 8th!!
Brandy Barnes is a healthcare industry leader, author, advocate for women with diabetes, key opinion leader, and speaker who has lived with Type 1 diabetes since 1990. She founded the 501c3 national nonprofit, DiabetesSisters, in January of 2008 to address the healthcare system’s gap in resources for women with diabetes.The organization’s mission is to improve the health and quality of life of women with and at risk of diabetes; and to advocate on their behalf.
She has been featured in All You, Diabetic Living, Diabetes Health, and Diabetes Forecast magazines. In December 2012 and October 2014, her contributions to the field of diabetes were featured in the Diabetes Forecast’s annual article “12 People to Know in Diabetes”.

Natalie Strand is a medical doctor and has had type 1 diabetes for over 24 years. In 2010 she competed on and won television reality show “The Amazing Race”, becoming the first person with diabetes to win the show, and the first all female team to win. Natalie has worked as a spokesperson for the JDRF, dLife, Colgate and Freedom Hospital promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, and has appeared on CNBC, CNN/HLN, EXTRA!, Rachel Ray, and The Doctors.
