Bless your heart, Elaine. I am indeed proud of her, but I don't talk about it very often. She is her own woman and her accomplishments are her own; I cannot technically take any credit for more than a common gene pool. But I am only human and a mother at that---it means a lot to me that you allow me to express a pride that is at times unbearable to tuck in my heart silently......Hope you are well, friend of mine!.....

Hello! Shipping is not possible to most of rural Nigeria. Or most of West Africa, for that matter; takes six months if it gets there at all due to corruption. Projects also carry much more weight if they're accompanied by visitors. Please invite your homeschoolers to get involved; easy-to-make designs are available on the web if you'd like to make a cooker, letters and cookers can be sent to Lisa c/o Mount Madonna School(mountmadonnaschool.com).. Thank you! Judith's daughter

Judith? Would it be possible to have an address? I think some homeschoolers' would love to have a project like this. It would be great to connect to life in a faraway place.

Flavia---My understanding is that the two schools have a very special relationship. Mt Madonna seniors went to India to meet with the Dalai Lama last year. 3 other schools were there, one from Nigeria. The Nigerian teacher was so impressed with Mt Madonna's specialized curriculum and philosophy that he quit his job to start such a school in Jos. Mt Madonna faculty and board members helped get it set up and then last fall a group went over specifically to set up the computer lab. The solar cookers are a new part of the connection initiated by Lisa's science classes who researched and tested many types. My husband and I donated 4 through Solar Cookers International. They are only 25.00 a piece.

But part of the difficulty in getting things set up is widespread corruption and I believe they feel it is safest to do it this way while they are figuring out how it will all work. It's kind of a global jigsaw puzzle done at very long distance, isn't it?

Thanks for your kind interest.....

Oh Manny, I had this silly perceptual problem about how to copy it in----My sweetie kept saying it goe to the clipboard and waits for you to tell it what next and I kept thinking I had to find this elusive clipboard and where the heck was it? Anyway, I did finally figure it out....
