Unfortunately, it is true that iPump is not currently accepting new applications for adults at this time (this was effective March 2, 2009). But this is temporary - not permanent.

Like many nonprofits, we are hurting, too. More than 95% of all iPump's expenses came from my personal bank account last year because cash donations are so few and far between (I also worked for free the entire year). With the tough economy and more people losing jobs, our in-kind donations are significantly down as well because people need to hold onto their spare supplies now more than ever.

In the fall of 2008, we saw a 450% increase in the number of applications and few donations to meet that need. Please know that it is not because iPump does not care, but in fact it is because we do care (we have helped more than 7,000 people in just two years) that are own resources are now so limited.

I encourage you to read the full reason why on our website. Cutting back on programs now will ensure the long-term success of iPump. I hope that those who can give, will continue to do so without fear that we are going under. When donations are coming in again, we will be able to re-open programs accordingly.

FYI...ipump.org is not taking adults anymore so those of us without insurance are screwed when it comes to getting other supplies like test strips. This went into effect 12/08.

Thanks for letting me know also Manny! Jess is now on the pump as well and we have some extra items to be shared with others. I'm all about sharing things that are in need!

Thanks Manny...I've had two boxes of syringes sitting in a box in my pantry since my daughter started on her pump nearly 2 years ago. I knew I wanted to keep them rather than toss, but never came across anyplace that was willing to take them. Great resources! Now I know!

Another place to donate unused testing supplies is Fight-It, a non-profit run by the folk at www.diabeticrockstar.com>DiabeticRockstar to get testing supplies out to people with diabetes who cannot afford these necessary items.
