While I'm a Starbucks regular and admirer of how they run their business and treat their employees, I agree that this "sugar-nuke" drink offering is deceptive and unhealthy. I'm sure the defenders of this type of product will say the company is simply responding to what the customers want.
It's not that simple. Companies use tested and proven marketing techniques built specifically to entice the consumer to indulge themselves. I'd prefer these same marketing techniques be used to encourage us to eat a healthier diet.
I think this type of selling capitalizes on the weakness and vulnerability most humans exhibit around food choices and discipline. I've seen this story elsewhere in the last 24 hours. Perhaps Starbucks could draw a better lesson if the public pushes back on this issue.
