Hi! I'm new in this Forum and I am writing from Greece.
My father, 80 years old, is a type 2 diabetic for about 20 years initially only on oral medication (Metformin) and then 5 years ago he was introduced too Lantus once a day, every night (along with Metformin).
His blood sugar readings used to read under 150, with some hypos though and his Hba1c slightly over the limits despite his readings being in the appropriate limits. He used to have some spikes e.g. through summer vacations a little bit over 200 but used to return back to normal without any drastic changes.
For the last 6 months his readings were gradually higher 160,180 etc. His endo suspected night hypos so he tried drastically lowering his lantus dosage from 34 units to 20, then 16 then 10 then none then again 16, 18, 20, 22 without any effect whatsoever to his reading. He then changed him from Lantus t Toujeo, he still has sky high readings, he even reached 300 yesterday (he was a bit stressed though).
I have to mention that he is very carefully with what he eats and he initiated exercising 3 weeks ago.
We got his blood test results yesterday (Hba1c still pending), but everything seems fine, as well as his urine test, are clear and ceton free. Thyroid exams also came clean. He has no pain, no inflammation to his knowledge nothing that bothers him, nothing changed.
Please note that the day he has his blood taken, waking up in the morning his tester showed blood sugar 212 and then half an hour later in the doctor's office his reading was 160. then in the afternoon back in the 200+ range.
He is frustrated mainly because he had never such a hard time in controlling his bs.
